Paragon Road Improvements

Washington Township set out to modernize a busy stretch of Paragon Road, transforming a narrow, aging two-lane corridor into a safer, more efficient route that gives Washington Township residents, businesses, and visitors smoother commutes and new ways to get around. CESO partnered with the Township to deliver improvements to this 1.28-mile roadway, blending multidisciplinary expertise with community-focused design.

The project began with our team taking a comprehensive look at how Paragon Road functioned. We identified areas where tight curves, inadequate drainage, and limited shoulders compromised safety and mobility to develop a plan for reconstructing 4,500 feet of the corridor and resurfacing another 2,250 feet. These improvements updated the roadway to a 24-foot two-lane section with curb and gutter as well as additional turn lanes at key intersections.

The effort went beyond a typical road rebuild, as CESO realigned portions of the roadway to remove two sharp 90-degree bends, introduced a superelevated “S” curve for smoother travel, and designed a pedestrian and bicycle path along the roadway, creating a new connection for non-motorized users, giving families and neighbors a safer, healthier option for daily travel. We also relocated water lines and hydrants, replaced three culverts, and integrated ADA-compliant access at various intersections.

To support long-term implementation, we prepared right-of-way plans, legal descriptions, and acquisition exhibits, while coordinating signal upgrades at Paragon Road and Spring Valley Pike. Together, these improvements have turned Paragon Road into a safer, more reliable corridor that connects neighborhoods, supports local businesses, and strengthens quality of life for Washington Township’s growing community.
