Burbank-Oldman-Winkler Roundabout
Two closely spaced intersections along Burbank Road in Wooster, Ohio, had long been a source of congestion and driver frustration, especially during peak hours when inadequate turn-lane storage created backups. CESO helped the City rethink the area to partner on a solution that would improve flow, enhance safety, and better serve the surrounding neighborhoods, schools, and parks.

After studying traffic patterns and capacity constraints, our transportation experts proposed an innovative “peanut” roundabout to merge the intersections at Burbank Road, Oldman Road, and Winkler Drive into a single continuous system. Once constructed, this approach will forge smoother, more predictable travel paths, reduce delays, and limit conflict points for the travelling public.
Community engagement played a central role in shaping the project, and the technical leaders for this project worked with the City to host discussions, gather feedback, and refine the roundabout’s geometry to deliver a solution that fit both the physical site and residents’ expectations. High-visibility pedestrian crossings, ADA-compliant facilities, storm sewer upgrades, and post-construction stormwater BMPs were integrated into the plan to support a safe, accessible, and environmentally responsible corridor.
By taking a more innovative approach – tailored to the unique needs of the site and incorporating public input, our project team helped set a new standard for how the City approaches mobility and community design. The Burbank-Oldman-Winkler roundabout will transform one of Wooster’s busiest areas into a modern traffic solution that moves people more efficiently, connects neighborhoods, and improves everyday travel for the community.
