Kentucky Speedway is a 1.5 mile motor speedway located in north-central Kentucky. The track hosts several race events yearly, including NASCAR Busch Series, Craftsman Truck series, ARCA RE/MAX series and Indy Racing League Indy Car Series (IRL) races.
As the popularity and profile of the races hosted by the Speedway escalated, issues with the traffic flow into and out of the facility became apparent, of particular note were excessive delays in exiting the Speedway. In order to address these traffic flow issues, CESO was retained by the Kentucky Speedway to conduct a Traffic Circulation Study that involved analyzing existing traffic flow patterns entering and exiting the facility during a typical race day event.
The study was primarily developed to accomplish three fundamental needs:
- Minimize travel delay to and from events
- Minimize travel frustration of attendees
- Minimize pedestrian conflicts
The completed report contains strategies and tactics for mitigating travel impacts identified by Kentucky Speedway staff and ultimately develops immediate, short term, and long term solutions to successfully address the traffic flow concerns.
